Are you staying Productive or Busy?

Are you staying Productive or Busy?

The moment you become a business owner is when you decide how and when to do your work which is a truly unique feeling to have control of your schedule. However, this can also work against you, and your workday can slowly spiral out of control.

You start each day with your long list of to-dos, ready to get so much done, but you can slowly get distracted, jumping from task to task and focusing on low-priority tasks that can wait. Before you expect it, you have spent the whole day working, but nothing was done, nothing urgent at least. Now you have to stay up even longer to finish the high-priority tasks.

We often think that if we multi-task, we can get so much done in a shorter time, but this cannot be further from the truth. This can be your worst enemy when it comes to business. It is just not a great thing to be doing, and you are more likely to make errors that can result in the loss of money, time, energy, and in many cases, credibility.

However, there are many ways to stay productive, and I definitely want to share them with you today!

1. Work in increments- If being distracted, multi-tasking, and working long hours is the norm, you must wait to change your lifelong habits overnight. Working in small increments at a time will help you to stay on track and more focused.

2. Give yourself deadlines- One of the essential things you can do for your own business is to have deadlines and hold yourself accountable. You are a business owner, and you make the rules which is why completing work can be much more complex.

3. Be gentle- As I have said, you cannot change habits overnight, and mistakes can happen even when extra careful. We are human and can only do so much, so mistakes will happen, as it is impossible not to make mistakes sometimes.

Please remember that working all day and trying to multi-task will not get you faster or better results. This might slow you down and leave room for errors you would have otherwise caught if you focused on one thing at a time.

Another secret to productivity is that you can stick with that plan for a while just because you have found a system that has worked for you in the past week, month, or year. Don’t get frustrated if things change, as life is full of curveballs, twists, and turns, so not everything will always go as planned. Business owners must learn to change and adapt to new situations and work environments regularly.

Let me know if you have found any systems that have worked for you in the past and how many times you have had to change things around.

I hope this was useful and that you are ready to smash it for the rest of the year.
