Taekwondo Form One


Taekwondo Form One, also known as "Taegeuk Il Jang," is the first basic form or Poomsae in Taekwondo. It is performed in the "Joon-bee" stance or "ready stance," which is a basic stance used in Taekwondo. The following are the written steps for Taekwondo Form One:

  1. Start in the Joon-bee stance, with your feet shoulder-width apart, and your arms relaxed at your sides.

  2. Step forward with your left foot into a front stance or "Ap Seogi," and execute a low block or "Arae Makki" with your left hand.

  3. Next, bring your left foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch or "Momtong Jireugi" with your right hand.

  4. Step forward with your right foot into a front stance, and execute a low block with your right hand.

  5. Bring your right foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch with your left hand.

  6. Turn to your left, pivoting on your left foot, and step forward with your right foot into a front stance, and execute a low block with your right hand.

  7. Bring your left foot to your right foot and turn to your left 180 degrees.

  8. Step forward with your left foot into a front stance and execute a low block with your left hand.

  9. Bring your right foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch with your left hand.

  10. Step forward with your right foot into a front stance, and execute a low block with your right hand.

  11. Bring your left foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch with your right hand.

  12. Turn to your right, pivoting on your right foot, and step forward with your left foot into a front stance, and execute a low block with your left hand.

  13. Bring your right foot to your left foot and turn to your right 180 degrees.

  14. Step forward with your right foot into a front stance, and execute a low block with your right hand.

  15. Bring your left foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch with your right hand.

  16. Step back with your left foot into a back stance or "Dwit-chagi" and execute a rising block or "Chookyo Makki" with your left hand.

  17. Bring your left foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch with your right hand.

  18. Step back with your right foot into a back stance, and execute a rising block with your right hand.

  19. Bring your right foot back to the Joon-bee stance, and execute a middle punch with your left hand.

  20. End the form in the Joon-bee stance with your feet shoulder-width apart, and your arms relaxed at your sides.
